2021 was hard and therapy is expensive… but candles, dear friends will always be there to give you some calm during these uncertain times… Well, until they tunnel in the middle leaving a heap of unused candle wax around the sides, and unfortunately, the more you burn it down, the worse the candle tunneling gets… sounds familiar, right?

A candle’s burn time can be varied but usually is between forty and sixty hours, however, there are things that we should keep in mind to make sure your candle reaches its full potential.

Why does candle tunneling happen?

Candle tunneling happens when you don’t burn your candle for enough time the first time you light it, so the wax will only melt away as far as it did that first time, that’s why it’s very important to follow your candle burning instructions and always burn your candle properly, in particular, the first time (most of the candle experts recommend to burn any candle for at least one hour for every inch in diameter) And you should try and burn it even every time you light it up.

However sometimes we are in a rush, or we simply forget how to do it, and then it’s when the tunneling happens so what do you do if the candle tunneling has already got hold of your favourite —expensive candle—?

How to fix candle tunneling?

Well… there is a really easy hack to take your candle back to life and all you need is kitchen foil. foil on candle

  1. Fold a piece of aluminum foil in half.
  2. Wrap it around the candle.
  3. Fold it up so it covers the top of the candle slightly but with space in the middle to burn.
  4. Keep the foil wrap on for about 20 to 30 minutes and you’ll see that the excess candle wax would have melted leaving an even candle again.

How to take care of your candles?

If you want to perfect your candle-lighting skills even more! One thing we recommend you to do is to trim your candle wicks, which will stop that annoying black rim around the candle.

It’s better if you do it before you light it up as you’ll get a brighter, and much cleaner burn, but what about preserving the fragrance? do not burn your candle for more than four hours at a time as your wick will start to mushroom and the candle will lose some of its fragrance. At that point, blow it out…

How to repurpose your candle vessel?

Once there is only 10mm of wax left in the vessel, place it in the freezer for 15-20 minutes and the wax will pop up on its own. Wipe the inside of the vessel and repurpose it with beauty brushes, pens, or whatever you can think of.
