My teeth did a good job of remaining intact for years — thanks to years of braces — but since last year, I started noticing that they were not as straight as they used to be, especially one annoying snaggle tooth in my bottom front row.  I also had developed the habit of grinding at night or when I feel stressed. So pretty much, I wake up the following day with a — no ideal — sore jaw.

I’ve wondered whether it would be worth it to give a try to Smile Direct Club, considering that my overall smile was OK, just a bit jagged.

If you’ve been tempted by Smile Direct Club, but you are unsure what the treatment involved, the results, and how much money it will cost you, read on.

What Are Invisible Aligners?

They are a form of braces that use clear tray aligners. They’re made of a blend of plastic, based on moulds of your mouth made with a previous 3D scan. The aligners are strong enough to put pressure on specific parts of your teeth so they can move into a better position.

Smile Direct Pros

  • It’s almost invisible, so you can feel comfortable while you are wearing it.
  • Easy to remove when eating.
  • Don’t require any visit to the dentist.
  • Almost no discomfort.
  • It’s very fast compering with braces.

Smile Direct Cons

  • You need to remove your aligners each time when eating or drinking.
  • Food limitations.

The Review

The first step in the process involved a consultation in person — pre-lockdown — and check-up. They made a 3D image of my teeth and explained what was going on (You can also have the option of an at-home impression kit and mail it back to Smile Direct Club).

Then, they sent my scan to an Australian registered dentist or orthodontist that reviewed and approved the custom treatment plan.

I had many questions before deciding to go ahead or not with the treatment, and I was really impressed how efficient was the team answering – all of them –

After a week or so, they informed me I would need a four-month treatment to get my smile back to what it was before. The team of Smile Direct Club shared a preview of my smile transformation through the technology they use that scans the teeth and shows you the results at the end of the treatment, which made me excited!

Smile Direct Club made my aligners unique to my mouth for a custom fit. Pretty much, they use a series of clear aligner trays that are replaced every one to two weeks. Each aligners replacement will feel a bit tight the first day as they are designed to continue shifting and moving the teeth.

Two weeks later, my Smile Direct Club aligners arrived, along with a fantastic pack full of everything I’d need during the next four months.

From some premium teeth whitening — added bonus — to a storage pot to keep them safe when you take your aligner off (even though they recommend wearing them around 22h a day to really make the most of the treatment.

Also, you have an Australian registered dentist or orthodontist available to have regular virtual check-ins, guiding the treatment remotely from beginning to end.

After using a new set of clear aligners, I found my teeth were quite sore, but the pain had gone by day two or three.

I couldn’t believe how easy this process was. It took one visit and no pain for me to start the treatment, which I found very convenient for anyone short on time!

How Much Does Smile Direct Club Cost?

It’s pretty affordable compering with other similar brands. According to the Smile Direct website, the entire treatment cost is $2825 or $119/month.

The best part? We have a Smile Direct discount code for CF readers. Use the code SMILENOW to order a $20 impression kit or book a FREE appointment and receive $150 off your aligners if you’re eligible.

Is Smile Direct Club Worth It?

If you are constantly looking at your teeth, you have minor issues, and you fear dental offices, absolutely! My teeth look better than I can even reminder, and I’m no longer drawn to my teeth during zoom calls which is a win! Also, they have sent me the retainer after the treatment to keep my teeth in their new position. They cost an extra $150, and you will need to wear them at night to keep your smile on point.
