A timeless metal, gold is here to stay and as we hit those warmer seasons we replace layers of clothing with layers of jewellery, undoubtedly adding the finishing touches to any look.

But are you aware what colours work best with your skin tone? How comfortable are you deciding when it’s appropriate to add your statement GiGi Ferranti ring instead of your Sarah & Sebastian fine jewellery?

Ahead, shop our favourite pieces of the season and learn the rules we follow & how you can incorporate these into your day-to-day.

Consider Tones

Not just your outfit, but your skin tone.

Everybody has a warm or cool undertone in their skin. Take a look at your palms. You will either have more pink which indicates a cool undertone, or more yellow which indicates a warm undertone.

People with a cool skin tone are better suited to white gold, platinum and silver jewellery and people with a warm skin tone are better suited to yellow, rose gold, copper and brass jewellery.

When considering jewels, pick from colours that either fall within your colour family or are directly opposite the hero colour of your outfit. For example, if you fit into the category on the left, you could consider ruby and topaz jewels, but if your outfit is red-violet you may consider a peridot jewel. If you fit into the category on the right, you could consider emerald and sapphire jewels, but if your outfit is violet you may consider a topaz jewel.

Consider The Fit

There is a right time to wear simple jewellery and statement jewellery.

When wearing a clean-cut, form fitting look throw on a statement jewellery piece, such as a chain link necklace or drop earrings.

Any outfit containing loud patterns, ruffles or sequins should always be paired back with simple jewellery, such as a thin bracelet or ring.

There is a fine line between too much and too little jewellery (we’re all guilty of it), but if you follow the rule of picking one hero piece and working backwards you’ll get it right every time!

Consider The Event

Work

Simple jewellery will do the trick! Pick out your favourite watch and work backwards from there.

Wedding

Weddings can be tricky. How do you complete your outfit with a statement while still remaining tasteful? Easy! Pick out a beautiful pair of drop earrings and the rest will fall into place.

Night Look

Don’t be afraid to have some fun here. Throw on a gold cuff and pair it back with some oversized stud earrings.

Casual Day Look
