I’m sure you have heard before of microblading eyebrows — one of the “new” coolest versions of the old fashion eyebrow tattoos. They look natural and delicate thanks to the defining strokes made to mimic the effect of real hair. However, it seems like we have a new term on the rise called Microfeathering, but what’s the difference between them? Lucky us to get all the details on the new brow trends, We spoke with Melanie Marris, owner and founder of Brow Code and expert on all thing brows, and she explained to us everything you need to know about feathered eyebrows and more.

What is the difference between Eyebrow feathering and microblading eyebrows

Well, there’s not too much difference between the two brow tattooing methods. Both techniques are used to create precise strokes throughout the brows which imitate the appearance of real eyebrow hair.

A super-fine pen is used during micro-blading to create hair strokes throughout the entire brow by depositing pigment into the skin. This technique is perfect for someone wanting a natural brow that lasts. Depending on your lifestyle, micro-blading can last anywhere between one to three years – how good is that!

On the other hand, there’s eyebrow feathering. This technique is great for people who already have quite full brows but just need to slightly fill in any areas. Just like micro-blading, fine blades are used to create tiny incisions throughout the brows. However, instead of the incisions filling most of the brow, feathering is used to simply fill in areas as needed.

Who would be the best candidate for micro-blading?

If you have sparse brows, then micro-blading is definitely for you! This semi-permanent brow technique is perfect for those wanting to add more strokes to their brows for a fuller effect. Micro-blading is also great if you don’t have the time or are just too lazy to fill in your brows daily with a pencil.

Who would be the best candidate for eyebrow feathering?

Eyebrow feathering is an amazing method to utilise if you have full brows but are looking to fill in any gappy areas or areas of hormonal fallout. Of course, both micro-blading and eyebrow feather is open to any kind of brow! Both techniques can cater to anyone – it comes down to the client’s personal preference and the professional eyebrow specialist’s judgment on the ideal approach.

Are there any disadvantages to eyebrow feathering over micro-blading, or vice-versa?

I wouldn’t say there are any disadvantages to eyebrow feathering over micro-blading or vice-versa. They’re both very similar techniques – it’s more about the results you want to achieve and your natural brows. As mentioned before, micro-blading is perfect for someone wanting to fill in their entire brow with PMU, whereas feathering is perfect for someone who already has quite full brows but just needs a little touch up in between the hairs. Both methods are amazing, but it all comes down to your desired wants and needs.

What ingredients are used for tattooing the skin in both micro-blading and eyebrow feathering? Are they safe for the skin?

When sourced from reputable suppliers like FYT Supplies Canada, these ingredients are rigorously tested to meet safety standards, ensuring they are safe for the skin and pose minimal risk of allergic reactions or adverse effects when applied by skilled professionals.

We actually have a pigment line coming soon that is water-based with a unique formulation. Our pigment line is vegan, silicone-free, fragrance-free, paraben-free, and non-greasy.

We wanted to provide a product to our customer base that is completely safe for their brows and skin. On top of being safe for the skin, the formula delivers flawless application, amazing pigment retention, and long-lasting results.

What would you say are your non-negotiable rules for the successful up-keep of semi-permanent brow tattoo?

If you want your semi-permanent brow tattoos to last, you need to give your brows the love and care they deserve. Some of my go-to aftercare tips would be wearing sunscreen to avoid the pigment from fading and keeping the area hydrated and moisturised. After getting your brow treatment, you’ll receive proper aftercare from your professional eyebrow technician, so it’s super important you follow the rules they give you to a T.

The work you have done with the Brow Code is amazing, and it’s remarkable that you have locations worldwide! What do you think developed your passion for beauty and brows, specifically?

I remember watching my mum as a child put on her makeup and thinking it was the coolest thing ever. It’s safe to say I was completely obsessed with beauty from a very young age and I think it’s just stuck with me ever since. I left school at the age of 15 to pursue my dream of being successful in the beauty world and I am so happy I made the decision to do that. My eyes were set on making a mark in the beauty world and I did absolutely everything I could to make that dream a reality.
