In 2016 the hair industry experienced a major change with the release of the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. The concept basically marries the idea behind a fast-drying and intelligent heat control to help protect the shine.
However, the brand didn’t stop there. Three-ish years ago, Dyson once again set the internet aflame with rave reviews and viral tutorials with the launch of Dyson Airwrap. I’d never gotten around to trying it until now, and these are my thoughts.

The Product: Dyson Airwrap Hair Styler
Dyson Airwrap is a hot tool that comes with different styling attachments for styling purposes and allows you to style your hair with less heat damage than conventional hair tools.
The device is powered by Dyson’s digital motor V9, which spins up to 110,000 times per minute. It is equipped with intelligent heat control that measures its own temperature more than 40 times (per minute) to keep it under 302 degrees prevent heat damage. Impressive right?
Dyson Airwrap comes with six interchangeable magnetic attachments, from a soft smoothing brush to 30mm – 40mm barrels, plus everything you need in the between, ready to leave your hair as perfect as if you were out of the salon.
But all that innovation comes at a cost. The Airwrap comes in a complete kit for AUD799.
Who can use it?
Every hair type. Great for those ones looking for a multi-purpose hot tool that cause less damage to the hair. Think sleek results in fewer passes without the fried-hair smell.
The kit comes with
- Pre-styling dryer: A smaller but powerful version of Dyson’s supersonic hair dryer.
- Soft smoothing brush: Designed for fine hair that provides a smooth finish
- Firm smoothing brush: Designed for thick hair that provides a straight finish.
- Two 40mm barrel: Good for loose curls.
- Two 30mm barrel: Good for voluminous curls.
- Round volumising brush: Use this attachment if you feel confident with your blowouts and want to look like you’ve walked out of the salon.
The Review Dyson Airwrap Review
It’s important to note that washing hair pre-styling is necessary, and you need to let the hair dry around 60% with the Airwrap’s pre-styling dryer — my favourite way — But you can also use the firm smoothing brush or soft, smooth brush for the same purpose.
As soon as I received the Airwrap, I was intrigued to get my hands on it, but I’d say it took me a solid two weeks to feel confident with the hair tools — especially the Airwrap barrels — As navigating the curling wands was a little trickier, but once I got the trick, I haven’t stopped using since.
But how do the Airwrap barrels works? These bad boys suck your hair as it’d be a vacuum that makes your hair wrap around the barrel itself without any effort.
Then, once the Airwrap barrels vacuum up your hair, you let it sit for a few seconds and then blow your hair with the cool shot button on the wand for five more seconds. According to the brand, this help to lock your curls in place longer. Like a regular curling wand, you’ll get a different curl pattern based on the way you hold it and, however, the barrels indicate the direction you should place the hair.
I usually like to use the largest curling barrels (40mm), as I have very long hair, so I think using these barrels bring me more volume and body on my hair — similar to when I use the round volumising brush.
So the million-dollar question: Is it worth the money? In general, I’m pretty obsessed with their lifestyle products, and I own some of them, so definitely the Airwrap was on my radar, and I really enjoy now curling my hair, knowing the less damage I’m doing, plus my hair looks on my zoom calls like If I just left the salon. But for me, this really depends if you are willing to spend the $$ on a hair tool that curls your hair — almost every day — if so, you won’t look back because it genuinely leaves the body and volume of a professional blowout.
