With a social life limited to supermarkets, footpaths and computer screens, there has never been a better time to get experimental with our skincare. One of the best skincare products we’ve been testing out during lockdown is The Global Beauty Group’s at home Dermaroller

The Dermaroller’s 162 medical grade needles deliver the tiniest of pricks to the skin in order to fade scars, stretch marks and discolouration, stimulate collagen production and minimise fine lines all over the face and body. When rolled over the skin, Dermarolling creates tiny pricks that act as micro channels that greatly improve skincare absorption for quicker, more noticeable results.

Though a little self care can go a long way in boosting the way we look and feel, unfortunately, we don’t always get it right. Read on to learn about common skincare mistakes and how to correct them.

10 Common Skincare Mistakes:

Common Skincare Mistakes

1. Neglecting your skin

If you’re struggling to maintain a multi-step skincare routine, going back to basics is much better than ditching your routine all together. Think of skincare as self care; as long as you cleanse, moisturise and apply an SPF each day.

2. Overwhelming your skin

On the opposite end of the spectrum are those of us who have gone a little overboard with our skincare while locked inside. Common mistakes include using too many steps, products that counteract one another, introducing a strong activity without first building a tolerance for it, and over-exfoliating. Alongside this, if you’re suffering from skin issues and flare-ups like eczema and contact dermatitis, make sure you’re using a specific eczema cream without any perfume, as this can contribute to irritation.

All of these habits can cause increased sensitivity, irritation and lead to a broken skin barrier.

3. Excessive Heat

Indoor heating and long, steamy showers are daily occurrences during winter but can wreak havoc on your skin. Keep dehydration and irritation at bay by washing your face with tepid or room temperature water and applying a hydrating moisturiser.

4. Dehydration

The easiest way to keep your body and skin hydrated is to drink water. A great way to work out exactly how many litres of water your body needs each day is to divide your weight in Kilograms by 24. For example, a 60kg person needs 2.5L each day. According to Dermal Repair Complex Reviews adding supplements that include hyaluronic acid helps the skin look plumper and more hydrated.

5. Picking pimples

If you’re anything like us, working from home has meant staring at yourself during video calls and debating whether or not you should pick at that new pimple. Unluckily for those of us without self control, pimple popping can cause further irritation, scarring and redness.

6. Pre-pandemic hygiene levels

In our current climate, maintaining a high standard of hygiene is of the utmost importance. In addition to minimising the spread of diseases and bacteria, boosting your hygiene levels can greatly improve the look and health of your skin. Makeup brushes, sponges, tweezers, phone screens, pillowcases and cloth face masks should all be sanitised regularly to avoid clogged pores and breakouts.

7. Skipping SPF

Even though it’s winter and we’re rarely outside, the sun’s UV rays can still cause damage. Worse still, studies into the long term effects of blue light have linked uneven pigmentation and collagen degradation to prolonged exposure. Fortunately, the effects of UV and blue light can be minimised with sunscreen containing Zinc Oxide.

8. Not getting enough sleep

For a lot of us, working from home has drastically changed our night time and morning routines. Prolonged insufficient sleep can reduce your ability to concentrate, regulate emotions, and maintain a healthy immune system.

To wake up feeling and looking your best, try to limit your exposure to alcohol, food and screens in the hour before bed, keep light and sounds to a minimum, and get out of bed quickly once your alarm goes off.

9. Not moving your body or keeping an eye on your diet

Without access to gyms, restaurants or cafes, maintaining our pre-pandemic exercise routines and diets just isn’t realistic. Fortunately, just like our sleep routines, even a few small changes can have a huge impact on the way we look and feel.

A daily walk is a fabulous way to boost your mood, heart rate, circulation and digestion while breaking up the day. Introducing antioxidant and healthy omega rich foods like nuts, avocado and fish into your diet can also help you feel your best, brighten dull skin, and keep chronic conditions at bay.

10. Keeping products that have expired

Not having anywhere to be certainly has its advantages, organisationally at least. Make Marie Kondo proud by going through your products and throwing away items that have passed their use by dates. If you need to replace items but want to branch out, head to one of our favourite skin care suppliers, The Global Beauty Group to discover all of the medical-grade and professional skincare we can’t get enough of.

Throwing away products can be hard, but using expired formulas will likely do your skin more harm than good.
