Hyaluronic acid has become a buzz term in the last few years, and there is no doubt, the hydration attracting ingredient is now a staple for every skin type — Including acne and oily prone — Dr Bennett from SkinCeuticals team explained to us why Hyaluronic acid is so important and who should incorporate it in the beauty routine.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Dr Bennett says that Hyaluronic acid is a sugar naturally produced by the body and is responsible for our skin’s plumpness and volume. It’s a natural humectant capable of holding 1,000 times its own weight in water and our body’s natural hydrator. It’s also particularly important as the warmer months start coming on.

Basically, using Hyaluronic acid regularly will increase the hydration of the skin, which means glowy and bouncy skin.

What are the benefits of hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid supplements can help increase skin moisture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, says Dr Bennet. “We work to ensure we’re using the best formulation of hyaluronic acid to achieve the results our clients are looking for. When it comes to skincare, it’s so important to prepare, protect and treat, especially in summer when the heat impacts our skin”.

Are there side effects to using hyaluronic acid?

While unusual, some side effects of hyaluronic acid can include blisters, skin soreness, discolouration, and swelling. It’s all dependent on the individual’s skin and their genetics, says Dr Bennet says. “If you do experience any potential side effects, these can be reduced by seeking professional advice when starting or through the treatment”.

Why hyaluronic acid with vitamin B5 is the most effective way to replenish and revitalise skin tissue?

Our skin is the largest human organ that needs to be hydrated and moisturised to be healthy and glowing. Dr Bennett says, “Pantothenic acid, also known as vitamin B5, is a water-soluble B vitamin and is one of the most effective therapies to hydrate the skin as it synergistically adds to the internal moisturising effect of hyaluronic acid. It also assists with healing skin wounds and has been used to treat acne”.

Why is it important to include hyaluronic acid in our summer skincare routine?

Finally, Dr Bennett says that Hyaluronic acid is important in our skincare routine to keep the skin hydrated and plump while supporting other products such as vitamin C ( CE Ferulic), retinol ( Retinol 0.5%), and sunscreen ( Ultra Facial Defence SPF 50+).

After seeking professional advice as to what your skin needs, the treatments become safer and more effective.
