1. Start with fresh and hydrated skin

Moisture is important and the secret to plump, nourished skin – If your skin looks glowing and healthy, then you really don’t need much makeup. French women love to use a facial mist before makeup and to refresh it during the day. Charlotte uses the Embryolisse Floral Water Toner, which not only helps with hydration but also decongests the skin and helps with puffiness (It’s also great to set makeup).

Micellar water is another French secret, and she loves the gentle Bioderma Sensibio H2O, which is great for sensitive skin, and it removes any type of makeup without the need to use any water.

2. They are all about the glow

French women understand that the skin is like an accessory, and radiant, glowing skin is the foundation of natural makeup. We care about achieving a glow and always use a primer or mix an oil into our moisturiser or foundation. Emryolisse Lait Creme Concentre is a staple for French women, it can be used in so many ways to invigorate the skin.

The formula is enriched with glycerin and beeswax to help the makeup to glide through the application and leave a dewy result. By taking a little more extra time to massage the moisturiser and primer into the skin, blood circulation is increased, and the skin naturally blushes.

3. Match nails and lips

The French love their red lips, but did you know that the ultimate chic is to match your nails and your lips? The French wear their nails natural, so they can change their colour as often as they like. It doesn’t have to be the exact same colour match, but colours that complement each other, like grey or beige with nude lips.

4. Less is more

To the French woman, a flawless complexion is everything without too much texture. They use a lighter approach instead of heavy foundations and contouring. They would rather use a BB Cream and add concealer to perfect their skin, we like to see pores and to let them breathe.

French women embrace their individuality, it’s in our culture. It’s about being yourself, natural and not something you are not. Focus on one feature at a time: Eyes, lips or cheeks. The key to an effortless look is to not do too much makeup but to keep a part of it natural.

Focus on one feature and leave the rest undone…or looking undone! If you don’t have time, make some priorities! Defining lashes, clean eyebrows, and fresh skin is enough if you only have five minutes in the morning. To add a quick touch of colour to your base, simply brush a bit of blush to your eyelids and “Le tour est joue” (Means: That’s it)

5. Master the smokey eye

A sexy, sultry smokey eye is a girl’s best beauty asset at night. French women love this glam-rock look to accessorise with a leather jacket and flat shoes! Create a soft smokey eye by blending a creamy black pencil along your lash line and intensifying with a blue or brown eyeshadow. Add lashings of mascara to give your eyes personality – don’t forget to curl beforehand, which can be intensified by quickly heating with a hair dryer.

6. Use multi-purpose products

Multi-purpose products are popular in France as they allow you to do more with less, which French women tend to follow since they prefer simple routines. You can use an illuminating oil both for your body and hair but also to highlight your cheekbones like The Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse to add glow anywhere on the body….. face, hair, legs and décolletage. It’s a beauty companion for all seasons!

7. Follow the trends!

French women are renowned for following the runway trends for both their clothing and makeup. If colourful eyes are seen on the runway, you’re sure to see a few colorful liners on the street too! French women are experts at interpreting fashion week trends to their everyday style.

8. Red Lip

A signature red lip is a staple of the French look and always adds a little drama. It can be a chic look with jeans or a cocktail dress, it’s just a matter of finding the red that is perfect for you. Always carry a little mirror to keep your lipstick in check.
