Mini Skirt

Mini skirts are arguably the easiest type of skirt to style with sneakers, as you can where every style and kind of sneaker with them. Whether it be a pair of New Balance shoes or Air Jordans, they all work with mini skirts.

With this kind of mini skirt, you can wear a crop top, a cropped t-shirt, and blazer, or something similar. With regards to color, getting a sneaker in a neutral color means you can wear them with far more outfits.

Tiered Skirt

With a tiered skirt, you don’t have as many options, but the options you do have are incredibly fun. Namely, New Balance sneakers, low-top Air Force 1’s, and Converse All Stars; these are all great shoes to wear with a tiered, flowy dress.

Tiered skirts are great for summer and warmer months, and this also means it should be a time to choose sneakers that are more lightweight and breathable, too.

Long Skirt

When it comes to long skirts, such as pencil skirts or more fitted skirts, you want to opt for a sneaker that is a bit simpler and more streamlined in a way. If you compare a pair of All-Stars to a pair of Air Jordans, the All-Stars are much “slimmer” than the Jordans.

Choosing a more simple and streamlined sneaker will keep your outfit balanced, and if you want a bit more volume, rather opt for a top that has ruffles or something similar.

Florals

Florals are perfect for sneakers, as you can choose to wear them in two different ways. The first is to have a floral skirt with a neutral top and neutral sneakers. Or, you can choose to wear floral sneakers and then a more neutral skirt and top.

Monochrome

One of the trendiest styles around right now is monochrome, and sneakers are perfect for this type of look. A great option is to dress in shades of grey and then pair it with silver metallic sneakers. Not only is that type of look ultra chic, but the metallic adds a touch of brightness in an easy way.

How to Choose the Perfect Pair of Sneakers

When it comes to choosing the right pair of sneakers for your skirt looks, there are a few things you should remember and consider.

1. Material

The first thing to consider is the material that the sneakers are made from. The three most common materials you will come across are suede, leather, and canvas. While suede and leather will look great, suede doesn’t do well in adverse weather conditions, and leather can be very warm and tight on foot.

Canvas is arguably the best material to choose from as it is breathable, soft, and forgiving and can stretch if or when needed.

2. Style

Much like your material choices, there are three main styles of sneakers to choose from. You can opt for low-tops, which are never higher than the ankle; high-tops often reach the ankle; and then platform shoes have elevated soles.

While it is more of a personal choice when it comes to which style you prefer, you will notice that, for example, low-top sneakers look better with long skirts, whereas high-tops will look better with shorter skirts such as mini skirts

3. Color

If you only own one or two pairs of sneakers or none at all, it is always best to have neutral-colored sneakers in the closet. Whether it be a pair of black All-Stars or white Air Force 1’s, neutral sneakers can go with almost any outfit and color palette.

There are also many brands that have a vast selection of sneakers in pastel colors; pastels are a brilliant way to add color to an outfit without being too overbearing or “too much.”

4. Comfort

Comfort is another important factor when choosing sneakers, and there are a few factors that will influence the immediate and long-term comfort of a shoe. The first is the material, as something like leather or suede will initially feel too tight but will become softer and far more comfortable down the line. It is always best to try shoes on, though, as comfort is something you can’t judge just by looking at them.

5. Size

When it comes to size, many sneakerheads believe in one simple trick to ensure you get the right size. Don’t try shoes on during the morning; instead, wait until the afternoon or evening after work.

This is because after being on your feet for a few hours, they will have a lot of blood flow and be slightly swollen. If you get shoes that are too small, this swelling will cause discomfort. Whereas buying sneakers that are possibly a size bigger than normal will ensure your feet are comfortable for bigger portions of the day.
