Taking care of our skin is one of the easiest ways to guarantee long-term skin health and radiance, and clean beauty brands are dedicated to making this happen, redefining the beauty industry standards for products that are good for us and good for our planet.

Clean beauty products (Makeup, skincare, haircare) don’t contain any questionable health ingredients usually found in conventional beauty products. The problem here is that clean beauty has become a buzzword in the last few years. The lack of policy around chemicals in the industry makes this topic controversial thanks to the greenwashing and marketing terms such as organic, pure, natural, and the list goes on…

But this is the thing, here at Caviar Feeling, we believe in Clean Beauty, the products we road test, as well as the brands we recommend always meet very high standards in terms of ingredients and formulations as we won’t test or recommend anything that shown or — not — to be harmful to our health.

We try to give the best we can to our bodies, skin, and environment and make allowances for real life. Choose products with transparent ingredient lists, and If you feel unsure, there are great online pages such as The Skin Deep database —  An amazing resource for researching your favourite beauty products and understanding what is inside them and how toxic they are.

What is Clean Beauty?

Clean beauty means that the product is safe for people and the planet meaning that the brand hasn’t used any toxic elements, like the concept of clean eating, that rejects processed food and focuses on the plant-based and nourishing elements that deliver all the good things like vitamins and minerals for our body and immune system.

The Beauty industry is slowly getting into a more clean space where customers can buy safer options, and the brands are more transparent about their ingredients and formulas. And as we know, clean beauty is quite intense, and sometimes it can be a little bit overwhelming. We decided to roll up a little Glossary to understand the difference between certified organic, natural, sustainable, vegan vs cruelty-free and natural.

SUSTAINABLE Sustainable products are those that provide environmental, social and economic benefits while also minimizing impacts on the system throughout its life cycle (From the extraction of raw materials to the product’s end of life)
CERTIFIED ORGANIC
The term ‘certified organic’ means the farm, product, or service, has been independent, third-party verified by a certification agency as being organic. This means that every part of the supply chain from the soil on the farm to the production of a product/ingredient or the service provided has been through rigorous audits, testing and adhered to a standard, such as the Australian Certified Organic Standard (ACOS) that avoid the use of artificial fertilizers or synthetic chemicals, such as pesticides or herbicides.

Basically, if you’re putting products blessed by the bud on your skin, you’re using good ingredients without any harsh chemicals going on your face and body.
VEGAN VS CRUELTY-FREEVegan does not contain any animal or animal-derived ingredient, while Cruelty-free products are those that have no form of animal testing at any point in the life cycle of a brand’s product (however, cruelty-free products can contain animal or animal-derived ingredients)
CLEAN

Clean means non-toxic products that have been made without a long, ever-evolving list of ingredients linked to harmful health effects from hormone disruption to cancer or skin irritation. To name just a few of the ingredients we don’t like to see in a label: parabens, phthalates, PEGs, ethanolamines, synthetic fragrance, or BHT.
NATURAL
This term is always a tricky one due to the regulation as “Natural” written on skincare (or any other package) means that the company who is selling the product understands that natural ingredients are important to you, but the product may not contain anything natural. However, natural means the product contains ingredients derived from nature and not made or created by humans.

We love luxurious yet effective beauty products because clean beauty doesn’t mean that you have to refuse effectiveness. The real goal? To not having to check what is inside the beauty products, because all of it will be clean and safe, to create the world we want to live in through the choices we make every day from our favourite body lotion to the restaurant you choose to have dinner out.
