Tell us about your journey and how you started with JSHealth.

I started struggling with body image and confidence from a very young age. This encouraged me to try every fad diet under the sun, and after a while I ended up restricting so many foods and food groups from my diet, believing they were “bad” or “unhealthy”.

Eventually, my nutrition studies made me realize how much damage I was doing. I started the JSHealth blog to share my struggles and learnings during my studies, in the hope of helping others going through the same things, and JSHealth has just grown from there.

After creating a nurturing community and inspiring them to live a healthier life, I’ve since launched the JSHealth App, 8-Week Program, JSHealth Vitamins, and written three best-selling health books!

Were you always into health and wellness growing up?

My mum always cooked us healthy, nourishing meals so it was always something I was conscious of, but it was when I began scrutinizing my body that I really got into the health space.

What is the biggest mistake or misconception you see most of the people make when it comes to health?

I often see people restricting certain foods or food groups, and thinking of health as a quick diet, or a temporary weight loss journey. Many people think they have to radically change their entire diet or lifestyle to be healthy, but really it’s the small changes that create long-term results. Instead of falling into these traps, simply aim to make 1-2 small changes each week, and remember that health should be enjoyable and sustainable!

You have a holistic approach, what are your top healthy living habits or tips?

My top tips are:

  • Aim for balance! Eating whole foods 80-90% of the time is fantastic, but allow yourself to indulge in moderation too, and don’t restrict any foods or food groups from your diet.
  • View health as a forever lifestyle choice, not a quick fix.
  • Listen to your body to figure out what foods, forms of movement, etc make YOU feel fantastic! Don’t compare yourself to others!

What does a day of your diet look like?

Every day is different, I don’t follow any sort of diet! Every day does include a wide range of wholefoods, heaps of greens and vegetables, healthy fats, and, lean protein sources. I always tune in to my body and eat the foods that make me feel good!

What about adaptogens? Can they really make the difference to your mood?

I think adaptogens can be super powerful to rejuvenate our adrenal glands, which is where our stress hormones are pumped out. In fact, this is why I added Ashwagandha to my Anxiety + Stress formula. This adaptogen has been traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicines as a rejuvenating tonic. It helps the body adapt to stress, and relieves feelings of general malaise and debility.

Any tips to Prevent Gut Inflammation?

To prevent gut inflammation, eat a balanced diet filled with whole foods, and include plenty of fiber from foods like vegetables and whole grains.

I’d also recommend taking a probiotic, which helps balance the good and bad bacteria in your gut, and our Gut Health + Immunity probiotic is fantastic for gut health and inflammation. Just remember, I do always recommend checking in with a health practitioner before starting any new supplements!

What are some of the best foods to incorporate into a healthy diet to improve skin, hair, and nails?

Healthy fats, such as the omega-3s in salmon, nuts, and avocado are fantastic! My best-selling Hair + Energy formula is also incredible for hair health, the results we’ve seen are mind-blowing, as is my Skin + Digestion formula for skin health.

Speaking of beauty. What are your top skincare ingredients, and why?

I really believe in vitamins when it comes to skincare. I keep it simple though!

I use a Vitamin C serum each morning, followed by a Vitamin E-rich moisturizer and an antioxidant-rich oil that contains Marula oil, Vitamin E, and Jojoba oil. I also take vitamins, which I believe improve your skin health from the inside out.

What do you look for in a beauty product?

I look for products that contain natural ingredients, and are free from the nasties like parabens!

When you have time for self-care, how do you like to treat yourself?

I love to spend time with friends and family, and doing little things I love like watching one of my favorite movies or TV shows and baking some goodies for my loved ones.

I also love a night drinking preservative-free wine with friends followed by a bath and my fave TV show! The simple things!
