Australia Fashion week 2021 wraps up in Sydney last week, following a week full of colour, diversity, painted eyes, post-beach beauty and long braids. Despite the pandemic, Australian designers are back pumping out extraordinary runway shows for After Pay Australian Fashion Week, and while things were a bit different this season — no crowded backstage beauty moments — We were beyond excited to speak with key leaders in the industry such a Nicole Thompson (Pinky) or KMS Hair Director Ali Holmes that presented a relaxed and youthful look which speaks to the femininity within the Resort ’22 collection.

Bondi Born: Bold Lips and Fresh Face

No make-up make look is breaking the beauty looks, and of course, bold lips were the perfect accompaniment to the Bondi Born collection. Head of Makeup Artistry at Clarins prepped the skin with SOS Primer for hydrated & glowy skin followed by Joli Rogue Velvet matte lipstick, taking the colour to the edge of the line of the models. In addition, they were pairing it with Double Fix Mascara on the brows for an extra volumised brow effect.

Ginger & Smart: Relaxed and Youthful Look

Ginger & Smart Spring 21 Resort 22 Collection debuted at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, partnering with innovative haircare brand KMS, designers Genevieve and Alexandra Smart, together with KMS Hair Director KMS Hair Director Ali Holmes, presented a relaxed and youthful look inspired on an untied ponytail. “The idea is that she’s raked it back; you can still see rakes, and messy marks, feminine marks in the hair like the elastic has come loose, but it still looks like it’s in the pony and is nice and sleek down the bottom. So the progression of the hair is really horizontal from the ears and then comes down into a really low, low, low ponytail at the nape,” Ali Holmes, says.

To recreate the Untied Head Hugging Pony Look, they used: KMS Add Volume Mousse, the Hybrid Clay, the Working Hairspray and then the hero product for the sophisticated shine is the Anti Humidity Seal.

Maggie Marilyn: Glowing, Natural Look

The glowy natural look for Maggie Marilyn partnered with MECCA Brands by the make-up director Isabella Schimid was a dreamy concept of dewiness with softly bee-stung lips, lightly drawn on freckles and glossed eyelids.

The key to recreating this look is pretty much not to do too much. You can create a natural make-up with a bit of Ilia True Skin Serum Foundation followed by Kosas Air Brow Fluff & Hold Treatment Gel and Westman Atelier Lit Up Highlighter Stick in Lit.

Hair was lead by Paloma Garcia – Paloma Salon using R+Co Blue, a ground-breaking range of clean, sustainable luxury hair care for the playful yet fascinating look of sleek buns that embrace the models’ natural style.

Bassike: Beautiful Curved Edge

Bassike’s hairstylist took it one step further, creating a simple but really, soft look with the GHD Smoothing Helius. They blow dried each section smooth and tucked under slightly, “we’re trying to get that really beautiful curved edge” Bassike’s hairstylist says.

Then they put through the Platinum Plus and smooth out the cuticle to keep the middle part and the model hair to be nice and simple but very soft, very natural.

KITX : Wet Hair and Glossy Make-up

In keeping with the Kitx collection, it’s all about sustainability and about the ocean, so it’s got this really beautiful aquatic ocean feel. The hair was prepped using Redken – they’ve used Guts and Stay High “We’re able to work with all the girl’s different textures and keep them really, really beautiful, really clean almost as if the girls have just walked out of the ocean, run their fingers through their hair and it’s just dried naturally” Adam, hairstylist says. It’s high shine, high gloss and really works with the collection rather than juxtaposing it – “We wanted something super complementary to Kitx and her brand” Adam, hairstylist says.

For the make-up, Make Up Director Nicole Thompson aka Pinky, wanted to bring a lot of gloss. “We’ve created a really nice, nourished matte skin, a soft matte skin, not heavy so that we see a really strong texture change between the matte and glossy eye” Pinky says.

On the cheeks, they opted for creams, like Bake (by Milk), which is a cream bronzer, and then Perk (by Milk) – Perk is a cream blush but isn’t too shiny; it gives a soft flush across the cheeks and the bridge of the nose, so it looks really healthy, kind of aquatic. Then on the lips, it’s the same colour. “I love these cream sticks because you can use them all over, and what I like about them is that they’re creamy but not too glossy, so the focus is all on those eyes… It’s actually quite simple, but the gloss is powerful and makes such a big impact when the face isn’t static,” Pinky, says.

Beare Park: Luxe, Sophisticated and Effortless Hair

The hair silhouettes for the evening included ponytails, slick back wet looks and enhancing natural haircuts. Hair Director Julianne McGuigan says the brief was “luxe hair, effortless, sophisticated feeling” McGuigan used Oribe products to create hair that felt beautiful and enhanced each model’s natural texture.

To recreate the look for a slick back wet look you will need:

  1. Prime hair with Oribe Mystify Restyling Spray (hand dry or let hair dry naturally)
  2. Around hair line massage in Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse from the root
  3. Finish on the ends by working through Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil

Make Up Director Nicole Thompson Pinky complimenting the look with flushed, peachy tones for a refined Australian beauty look using NUDESTIX. Tones of apricot peach and caramel created a veil of colour over the cheeks, bridge of the nose, eyes and temples.

ANNA QUAN: Alluring Beauty Look

Anna Quan’22 resort Collection showcased an alluring beauty look created by Lara Srokowski for LANCÔME. The looks were focused on radiant, healthy-looking skin and were created by fusing the brand’s iconic Ultra Wear Foundation with a hint of Génifique Serum to accentuate the luminosity. In addition, the brows were highlighted and brushed, some models wore a muted plum lip, and others wore a defined, contoured eye. The epic Grecian-inspired hair directive was created by Renya Xydis for WELLA, using ALIGHIERI jewellery.
